One of the questions we frequently get is whether it makes a difference what day of the week you promote your free ebook.

There’s two parts to this answer:

1. How many people get the newsletter on different days of the week.

2. Whether people are more likely to open the newsletter on one day versus another.

Day of the week readership

We took the overall daily average for the week and compared it against each day of the week to get the percentage change:

  • Sunday: -0.2%

  • Monday: +2.6%

  • Tuesday: -2.7%

  • Wednesday: +1.2%

  • Thursday: -2.4%

  • Friday: +1.6%

  • Saturday: -0.1%

So there’s not much variation – about 2% one way or another.

Even though we let people choose when they receive the free ebook newsletter, there’s just not a significant difference among the days of the week.

Open rates

We went through five years of reports – starting back when this mailing list had only 25,000 readers to its current 375,000.

We again took the overall average for the week and compared it against each day of the week:

  • Sunday: +1.5%

  • Monday: +.04%

  • Tuesday: +.04%

  • Wednesday: -.08%

  • Thursday: -1.3%

  • Friday: -0.60%

  • Saturday: +0.45%

Conclusion

It doesn’t make much difference what day of the week you promote your free ebook.

When you’re talking about 1% or 2% one way or another, it’s just not worth worrying about.

So grab the day that works for your promotion schedule and know that you’re going to get consistent results.

This is interesting information. I always felt that week-ends--Saturday or Sunday would be the best days. It seems this is not the case.
