Bestselling and beloved author Eric Jerome Dickey has passed away.
His publicist confirmed that Dickey died of cancer last Sunday, reports The Associated Press. He was fifty-nine years old.
Dickey was best known for his novels about contemporary Black life; among his best-known (and bestselling) works were Friends & Lovers, Between Lovers, and Sister, Sister, the latter of which landed on Essence’s list of the fifty most impactful books of the past half-century.
Dickey’s final novel, The Son of Mr. Suleman, will come out in April.
