US Senator Rob Portman, who represents Ohio, announced today that he won’t seek re-election in 2022, sparking immediate speculation over who might run to fill his seat.
Wondering why this is news on a literary blog? Because some think a prominent author might toss his name into the ring.
The Columbus Dispatch points out that J.D. Vance, author of the bestselling memoir Hillbilly Elegy, considered running for the Senate back in 2018.
He cited his young family as a reason back then, but Politico also noted that his statements came after support seemed to coalesce around a then-US representative … who is also mentioned as a possible Senate candidate this time around.
