One of YA literature’s most important people — and someone you’ve likely never heard of — has died.

Literary agent Christopher Little managed to sell Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by the then-unknown J.K. Rowling for a low price but with high incentives for the author.

(Though to be fair, he only picked up the manuscript after his office manager read it and recommended it.)

Little passed away January 7 at age 79, reports the New York Times.

His partnership with Rowling continued through 2011, during which time the pair sold the US and film rights for considerably more than the UK rights and established multiple Harry Potter theme parks.

For more about Little’s life before and and after Harry Potter, check out the New York Times obituary.
