Animals aren’t just for children’s books.

Writer’s Digest editor Moriah Richard says that as long as the four-legged friend serves a plot purpose, they’re a welcome addition to a novel for any age of reader.

She shares examples of the purpose an animal character might have and tips for developing their personality in a post that’s purr-fect (sorry) to read in March, which is Paws to Read Month.
