Some readers are excited to pick up a copy of whatever book everyone is talking about.

Others may only find the various seasonal best-of lists to be a way to weed out books they suspect they’ll hate.

Either way, Literary Hub’s Emily Temple has gone through almost forty summer-recommendation lists and tallied the number of times that various books appeared.

The most commonly recommended is The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris (a Good Morning America book club pick, we might add), which appeared twenty-one times; it’s followed by Somebody’s Daughter by Ashley C. Ford, which popped up twenty times.

Lit Hub’s ultimate summer 2021 reading list also links to the original lists at the end, if you’d like to assess Temple’s sources.
