Film director Werner Herzog is returning to his writing roots.

The Guardian reports that The Twilight World and an untitled memoir will be out in 2022 and 2023, respectively, marking his first books since 2004.

The former is a look at the life of Japanese soldier Hiroo Onoda, who took three decades to surrender after World War II.

Herzog, a pioneer of New German Cinema, has made such films as Aguirre, The Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo, Grizzly Man, and Cave of Forgotten Dreams.
