Cast your vote for the 2021 Oddest Book Title of the Year

There may be no better way to start out the workweek than catching up on this year’s contenders for the weirdest book title.

The six titles in the running are:

• Is Superman Circumcised?, by Roy Schwartz

• Handbook of Research on Health and Environmental Benefits of Camel Products, edited by Omar Amin Alhaj, Bernard Faye, and Rajendra Prasad Agrawal

• Curves for the Mathematically Curious, by Julian Havil

• Hats: A Very Unnatural History, by Malcolm Smith

• The Life Cycle of Russian Things: From Fish Guts to Fabergé, edited by Matthew P. Romaniello, Alison K. Smith, and Tricia Starks

• Miss, I Don’t Give a Shit: Engaging with Challenging Behaviour in Schools, by Adele Bates

All of these, believe it or not, were written by academics, reports the Guardian.

The Diagram Prize for Oddest Book Title of the Year is run by the Bookseller, with a reader poll serving as the judging panel.

The Bookseller’s Tom Tivnan, however, may have tipped the scales by sharing his prediction that the Superman title will win.

“Diagram voters have long had a sometimes lamentable predilection for titles that refer, even obliquely, to naughty bits,” he told the Guardian.

Voting, which is open now, closes November 26 so the winner of a “passable bottle of claret” (per the Bookseller) can be announced December 3.
