This fall saw the release of two books about guns in America — and two high-profile trials involving fatal shootings.
So unsurprisingly, the authors of these two books have been featured on NPR (and it must be noted, one of them actually is an NPR reporter).
In Misfire: Inside the Downfall of the NRA, reporter Tim Mak explores the National Rifle Association’s journey from grassroots club to powerful nonprofit facing legal challenges.
Mak’s conversation with his co-worker Steve Inskeep focuses on some of those challenges and the investigations that prompted them; you can listen to that segment below.
And in Gunfight: My Battle Against the Industry that Radicalized America, Ryan Busse — who grew up owning guns and continues to do so — describes his gradual route to leaving the firearms industry after thirty years.
Busse spoke with Fresh Air’s Dave Davies about how he and the industry each changed, especially when confronted with the tragic school shootings in Columbine and Sandy Hook.
