The big news in the indie-publishing world yesterday was that Draft2Digital plans to acquire Smashwords.

According to a D2D blog post, the acquisition will mean that its users gain access to Smashwords features and vice versa.

It assured users that erotica authors can continue distributing through Smashwords and shared a chart of which distribution partners will be added to users of each company, once the acquisition is complete — expected to be March 1.

Joanna Penn of The Creative Penn told Yahoo! Finance that this is great news for indie authors.

“Two of the industry’s strongest advocates for indie authors are combining their unique toolsets, technologies, and energy to do more for the indie community," she said.

A recording of today's live Q&A session — at noon central — with leaders of both companies will be shared in Draft2Digital's podcast, Self Publishing Insiders, and on its blog.
