Author's essay on murdering spouses won't be allowed at her trial

An author facing charges in her husband's death appears to have caught a lucky break at trial.

Nancy Crampton Brophy, in addition to romance novels, wrote an essay titled "How to Murder Your Husband."

But Judge Christopher Ramras excluded that work from evidence, citing the "danger of unfair prejudice and confusion of the issues," reports CBS News.

That announcement came Monday; Crampton Brophy has been in custody since her arrest in September 2018.

Daniel Brophy was found dead in his classroom at the Oregon Culinary Institute in Portland a few months before his wife's arrest.

Crampton Brophy has entered a not guilty plea.
