Desmond Hall is back with more thought-provoking videos about writing for Writer Unboxed.
The first topic is mystery versus backstory, with questions aimed to help you decide whether leading with backstory truly is right for your novel.
The second is on what he calls oppositional dialogue — that is, having a scene's characters approach each other with different goals to create tension.
And the last one also focuses on an individual scene, but in this case, it's noting whether the moments change between highs and lows – or whether the scene strikes just a single note.
