The attacks just keep coming for certain books — and, by proximity, the stores that sell them.
British newspaper i shared Belarusian media reports that bookstores in that country have been ordered to stop selling 1984 by George Orwell.
Publisher Andrei Yanushkevich was also detained by state security forces, according to those reports.
And closer to home for many of us, Barnes & Noble is being sued by a Virginia legislator — who as a lawyer is representing a political candidate who says he's running for Congress to protect freedom of speech — to restrict the sale of two books.
CBS News reports that the lawsuit aims to block B&N and also a school district from selling or lending Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe and A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas to minors without parental consent.
B&N told CBS that it asks customers to respect others' right to purchase books that they might find objectionable; the authors didn't issue any comment.
