The title character in Joyce Carol Oates's new release, Babysitter, is not one you want to hire for your children.

Instead, it's the nickname of a serial killer terrifying Detroit in the 1970s; the novel follows not just his secret life, but the hidden sides of several of the residents who are living in fear of him.

You can read an excerpt from Babysitter at Literary Hub.
