Make no mistake — as an author, you do want your reader asking questions.

You just don't want those questions to be "wait, who was that again?" or "what's the point of this?".

Angela Ackerman, co-author of the The Conflict Thesaurus, says the questions you want readers to ask are those that indicate tension.

For example: Will the man with two girlfriends escape unscathed when he realizes both women are at the same restaurant as him? Or will they catch him? And what will they do, if so?

That tension, Ackerman says, will keep readers consuming your novel, and she shares a number of conflict scenarios that can build tension for you in a guest post on Jane Friedman's blog.
