The late author Joan Didion's estate has been auctioned off, and we'll share some highlights from the sale — but first, here are (unrelated) literary items that you can still buy.
The Freedom From Torture auction includes twenty-four experiences and prizes from internationally bestselling authors, to benefit torture survivors.
Until November 24, you can bid on the right to be a character in future works from the likes of Margaret Atwood, Ken Follett, Lee and Andrew Child, Malorie Blackman, Ali Smith, and more.
Or you could purchase a story review, book club appearance, or first-edition copy of A Clockwork Orange.
Those intrigued by the tangible items more than the intangibles can also save up for December 7, when an original illustration from The Wind in the Willows heads to auction.
The pencil and ink drawing by EH Shepard was recently found hanging in a country house in England, reports the Guardian.
Its estimated value is £8,000 to £12,000 (about $9,400 to $14,000).
And back to the completed Didion auction ... several items sold for well above that amount, including an oil painting of the author ($110,000) and sunglasses she wore in an advertisement ($27,000).
