The most challenged books list has been part of National Library Week for some time, but in recent years, the topic of the freedom to read has become even more pressing.
NPR had two stories this past week in connection to book ban trends.
One took a look at the issue of book challenges through the lens of President Joe Biden's re-election campaign announcement — specifically, why and where it's become such a problem.
The other goes to one particular author who is, unfortunately for her, incredibly familiar with reading restrictions: Judy Blume.
The author of such books as Forever, Deenie, and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret has pretty much been targeted since she began publishing honest, entertaining works for younger readers.
Blume recently went on Fresh Air to talk with Terry Gross about her storied career and its various inspirations; you can read highlights from it on NPR's website or listen to the full show.
