Florida remains in the spotlight for its state policy towards books.
This time, it's about school textbooks.
NPR reports that the Florida Department of Education approved sixty-six of 101 submissions for new social studies textbooks.
Initially, only nineteen were approved — but publishers made requested revisions, resulting in approvals.
The state DOE website includes a list of rejected materials, which officials said did not meet state standards without specifying further.
That said, NPR notes that one approved textbook no longer includes references to George Floyd's killing and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Last year, fifty-four math textbooks were rejected, and earlier this year, an African American Studies Advanced Placement course was also rejected.
