Congratulations — and envy — are in order for Aimée Johnston, who has officially left Northern Ireland to run a bookstore on a tropical island.
Johnston’s employer, an international school of education in personal development, granted her a three-month sabbatical so she could lead the Barefoot Bookseller pop-up shop in the Maldives.
Thousands of applicants sought the gig on the luxury resort Soneva Fushi when it was announced last fall.
Twenty-six-year-old Johnston told the Bookseller: “I’m over the moon to be Ultimate Library and Soneva Fushi’s next Barefoot Bookseller. It’s one thing to wake up in paradise every day, but to get to work in one of the world’s most beautiful bookshop? That’s a dream come true.”
