Sorry, we’re sharing this too late for you to bid, but we’re still excited to stumble upon the Guardian’s article about two previously unknown poems by Daphne Du Maurier having been discovered last month.

Auctioneer Roddy Lloyd was sorting through forty years’ worth of correspondence between Du Maurier and her close friend Maureen Baker-Munton — whose son was selling the archive — when he found a framed photo of the author.

On a whim, Lloyd pulled out the picture, of a youthful Du Maurier posing on rocks in a swimsuit, and discovered the poems tucked behind it.

They are believed to have been written when Du Maurier was in her twenties.

The collection was auctioned off April 27.
