As we learned from NPR, calculating book sales is less of a science than an art.
But that doesn’t stop experts from estimating sales and awarding bragging rights to certain books.
And thus NPD BookScan has crowned Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James as the bestselling book of the decade, notching 15.2 million sales, according to Publishers Weekly.
In fact, James’s trilogy claimed the top three spots on NPD’s list, with nearly 35 million copies sold among them.
Rounding out the top five were The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The Help by Kathryn Stockett; each sold 8.7 million copies.
