Happy birthday, J.R.R. Tolkien!

The author famous for the Lord of the Rings trilogy was born on this day in 1892, and we’ve been saving a particular Literary Hub essay for the occasion for a couple of months.

It’s generally agreed upon that actor Ian McKellen knocks it out of the park with his portrayal of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movies, and there are intriguing parallels between his life and Tolkien’s.
