Over the weekend, author Lee Child announced that he would be gradually handing over his bestselling character, Jack Reacher, to his younger brother.

Child and Andrew Grant, also an established author in his own right, will collaborate on a few books first before Grant takes total control, according to the Guardian.

Child admitted he thought for years about killing off Reacher but decided instead that his fans deserved to continue enjoying the character.

Check out how Child's decision compares to that of other notable authors, some of whom had the luxury of time to make this decision, in the Guardian.
