Some railroad enthusiasts visit train hubs or set up an extensive network for their model cars.

Others … buy the railway and trains along an eighteen-mile spur line.

Among that group? Novelist George R.R. Martin.

The Song of Ice and Fire writer teamed up with two other buyers to purchase the Santa Fe Southern Railroad, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.

Martin couldn’t be reached for comment about his new investment, but you can read plenty more about what his co-buyers — Violet Crown cinema owner Bill Banowsky and NDI New Mexico co-founder Catherine Oppenheimer — have planned in the New Mexican.

This isn't Martin's first commercial purchase in Santa Fe; he also owns the Jean Cocteau Cinema and its neighboring bookstore there.
