Remember when “going viral” referred to internet trends?

Those were certainly the good old days.

Yet they’re not as far into the past as they may seem — the same mathematic principles behind how rapidly memes or fake news spread apply to the coronavirus (and other pandemics).

Adam Kucharski, associate professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, explores these connections in his new book, The Rules of Contagion.
