Netflix has won a bidding war to adapt a novel that hasn’t even been released yet.
Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam comes out October 6, and Deadline — in reporting the deal — notes its “timely premise.”
A white family is enjoying their time in a vacation rental when the Black owners of the home arrive unexpectedly, fleeing a blackout in the city.
The chaos soon spreads out from the city, with TV, internet, cell service, and landlines all failing in the vacation home, too.
Deadline says Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington will both star and produce the adaptation.
Alam has previously written Rich and Pretty and That Kind of Mother.
