Imagine being six years old and making history.

That was reality for Ruby Bridges, who was escorted into a previously all-white New Orleans school by US marshals in 1960.

She has now written a book about her experience for young readers, titled Ruby Bridges: This is Your Time.

You can listen to their conversation below or read it on NPR’s website.
