Though the novel came out in August, an interview with the author of Cher Ami and Major Whittlesey fits perfectly today.

On Veterans Day, NPR interviewed Kathleen Rooney about her novel, which details both the life of a homing pigeon that delivered a critical message to World War I’s Lost Battalion and the commander of those particular troops.

You can read Rooney’s reflections on the parallels between Cher Ami the bird and Major Charles Whittlesey on NPR’s website, which also includes links to other literary-themed Veterans Day coverage.
