Julia Quinn, author of the Bridgerton books that have inspired a smash hit Netflix series, has a message for fans.

She’s thrilled that they want to acquire copies of her books … but $800 is way too much.

Quinn explains to the Los Angeles Times that the Bridgerton books were never issued as hardcovers for mass purchase — only for the Doubleday Book Club.

So hardcover copies of her steamy historical romances are scarce indeed, driving the asking price for them on Amazon to as high as $800.

“If you are a collector, I suppose you might want to buy one of these hardcovers,” she said in an email to the paper.

“But if you’re just looking for a book to read, please, save your money and wait for the paperback to be reprinted. Or get an e-book.”
