We suspect that most people watching the Apple TV+ show Dickinson aren’t there for the historical accuracy.

Still, we can see where easily confirmed details that aren’t changed for any purpose might stick out to Emily Dickinson experts.

One such person, Sarah Mesle, has written a letter to “television” on the topic of Dickinson’s hair color.

As it turns out, we have a lock of the famous poet’s hair — and it doesn’t match actress Hailee Steinfeld’s.

Mesle explains why she cares about this fact in “Dickinson’s Hair” in the Los Angeles Review of Books.
