Ready for another inspirational children’s book about a newsworthy bird?

Award-winning entertainer Bette Midler has delivered it: The Tale Of The Mandarin Duck, inspired by an actual, colorful feathered friend who camped out in Central Park back in 2018.

But, as Midler told NPR’s Ari Shapiro in a conversation about the book, the popularity of this beautiful bird (and the parable version of it) holds lessons that are quite relevant even a few years later.
