The Scripps National Spelling Bee is coming back this year!

Organizers announced Monday that a modified version of the nearly hundred-year-old word competition will take place this year, after the COVID-19 outbreak prompted the cancellation of 2020’s event.

This year, only the final round, with about a dozen competitors, will take place in person — and that won’t be until July 8, reports the Associated Press.

Earlier rounds of the Scripps competition will be done virtually and over the course of a few months versus a single week.
