Marvel Comics is introducing its first LGBTQ+ Captain America this summer.
2021 marks the eightieth anniversary of the superhero’s debut, and to mark the occasion, past Captain Americas will travel across the country to find a missing shield and meet new faces who have assumed heroic roles in their communities, reports the Guardian.
The first limited series will launch in June, starring Aaron Fischer, a gay teenager; the timing coincides with Pride Month.
Fischer won’t be the first LGBTQ+ character for Marvel; the Guardian’s article about him also includes the comics’ complex history with such characters.
