As her interviewer put it, a fictional version of US Senator Tammy Duckworth’s life might be derided as unrealistic.

For years before she became the first sitting senator to give birth while in office, Duckworth faced — and conquered — a number of challenges, including losing both legs while serving in the Army.

So perhaps unsurprisingly, she has written a memoir, Every Day Is A Gift, which came out today.

Michel Martin, who made the observation about the implausibility of her life, hosted Duckworth on All Things Considered to preview her memoir.
