April started on a high note for author Blake Bailey, with the publication of his well-reviewed biography of writer Philip Roth.

It’s not ending nearly as well.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Bailey’s literary agency has dropped him over allegations of grooming, manipulation, and other sexual misconduct.

Shortly after that, his US publisher announced that it would stop shipping and promoting Philip Roth: The Biography in light of the allegations, according to the Guardian

The Times Picayune/New Orleans Advocate also ran a story about allegations against Bailey, including one of rape.

Bailey’s attorney strongly denied all of the claims, as did Bailey himself in an email to one woman who was interviewed by the Times Picayune/New Orleans Advocate.

Literary Hub walks us through how the newspapers became aware of these allegations against Bailey and investigated them, with links to the reporting.
