A 2008 Broadway performance of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with an all-Black cast was a smash hit.

So the only surprise about plans to do the same with a film version is that it didn’t happen immediately.

Deadline reports that Antoine Fuqua, whose previous credits include Training Day and The Magnificent Seven, will direct and produce the all-Black performance of Tennessee Williams’s classic play, with the help of two Broadway producers.

No casting was announced; Terrence Howard, Anika Noni Rose, Phylicia Rashad, and James Earl Jones starred in the 2008 Broadway production.

The movie, according to Deadline, is expected to add new storylines to the original material.
