You might be sick to death of hearing about certain books, but are their fans really the most egregious offenders?

Emily Temple of Literary Hub has set out to identify which books are, in fact, the most frequently discussed ones (at least on the Internet).

Since it only measures Google results, the results will skew more modern, but you’ll still find a few classics on the list.

As evidence, here are the top ten and their total mentions; the whole list of results and Temple’s methodology are both available at Lit Hub.

  • George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four – 12,997,000 (includes results for 1984 and Nineteen Eighty-Four)

  • J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings – 8,630,000 (Temple acknowledges that, yes, this is technically three books)

  • William Shakespeare, Hamlet – 8,240,000

  • Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird – 5,600,000

  • William Shakespeare, Macbeth – 5,540,000

  • Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice – 5,530,000

  • J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit – 4,690,000

  • William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet – 4,680,000

  • Laura Ingalls Wilder, Little House in the Big Woods – 4,440,000

  • Michelle Obama, Becoming – 4,410,000
