Concerns about linguistic extinction are, apparently, nothing new.

Atlas Obscura recently shared the story of Valentin Vodnik, a Slovene priest who helped save his native language.

How? By publishing a cookbook — despite his lack of experience in a kitchen and ignorance of traditional recipes — in the Slovene language in 1799.
