Literary Hub decided to pull up early reviews of J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye to celebrate its seventieth publication anniversary.
In its post, you’ll find excerpts from and links to the full versions of the reviews from the Associated Press, the New York Times, TIME, and The New Yorker, among other “phonies” as Lit Hub cheekily calls them.
But also worth noting from Lit Hub: the delightfully accurate characterization of the general public’s two opinions on the novel and its steady sales figures from July 16, 1951, to today.
