Today’s updates from the world of literary adaptations include the usual and the unusual.
The usual: Octavia E. Butler’s sci-fi classic Parable of the Sower will become a movie, according to Deadline.
A24 acquired the film rights and has chosen Time director Garrett Bradley to direct.
Parable of the Sower is the first of two books that describe one woman’s quest to survive a post-apocalyptic world.
The unusual: Garth Greenwell’s novel What Belongs to You has become an opera.
Greenwell interrupted his Twitter hiatus to announce on the social media network that he’d heard a rehearsal of the first part of the opera.
He described it as “mindblowing & moving & surreal.”
What Belongs to You is the story of a man who pays a young hustler for sex and the complicated consequences of that decision.
