Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Ted Cruz are both in the news because of their bestselling books.
For Ferguson, that’s a good thing — the Guardian reports that her first novel for adults, the historical romance Her Heart for a Compass, is number ten on the UK hardback fiction chart this week.
Ferguson and her co-author, Marguerite Kaye, are already at work on a second novel.
Senator Cruz’s bestseller, meanwhile, is older news – One Vote Away came out last fall — but it’s back in the spotlight as part of a possible scandal.
Forbes reports that Cruz’s campaign spent $153,000 at Books-a-Million in the three months after One Vote Away’s publication.
The filings only refer to the purchase as for “books,” and a campaign spokesperson previously declined to specify which title or titles were bought.
But if they were copies of One Vote Away, that goes against a 1995 Federal Election Commission advisory opinion.
Additionally, Forbes said, $5,000 in campaign funds went to Facebook ads for One Vote Away, in violation of the prohibition on using campaign money for personal use.
