The shortlist for the 2021 BBC National Short Story Award has been revealed.
Organizers touted the inclusion of several new voices on the list, though one nominee is on it for a third time.
Those finalists are:

“All the People Were Mean and Bad,” by Lucy Caldwell (previous nominee)

“The Body Audit,” by Rory Gleeson

“Night Train,” by Georgina Harding
-
“Toadstone,” by Danny Rhodes
-
“Maykopsky District, Adyghe Oblast,” by Richard Smyth
The BBC National Short Story Award is considered among the most prestigious prizes of its type; it grants its winner £15,000 (about $20,600) and £600 (about $830) to each of the shortlisted authors.
Its winner will be announced October 19.
