Think you’re the ultimate Lord of the Rings fan?

Sorry, but a 37-year-old Italian pastry chef has you beat, most likely.

The Guardian recently profiled Nicolas Gentile and his journey to hobbit-dom, beginning with his purchase of his own personal “shire” and 120-plus-mile walk to throw a ring into a volcano (in this case, Mount Vesuvius).

Gentile and his family already live in his shire, dubbed the Contea Gentile, and dress as hobbits; head to the Guardian’s article to learn what other J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired buildings and artwork he has planned.

And add Abruzzo, Italy, to your flight-cost tracking list, because Gentile expects to host visitors someday, too.

(In the meantime, though, you can stay in this hobbit-house AirBnb near San Diego ... )
