NASA’s Lucy mission is set to launch early tomorrow morning, and several esteemed authors will be on board … figuratively.
Lucy, which will study asteroids near Jupiter, will continue NASA’s tradition of carrying a time capsule on board.
This one takes the form of a plaque with meaningful messages from great modern minds, some of whom are noted writers.
They include poets Billy Collins, Rita Dove, Louise Gluck, Amanda Gorman, Joy Harjo, Juan Felipe Herrera, and Charles Simic; and novelists Kazuo Ishiguro, Orhan Pamuk, and Olga Tokarczuk.
You can read their quotes (and those of others) and see Lucy’s plaque, destined for future humans to read and not extraterrestrials, online.
