Deborah James’s second book is most likely her final one, as the teacher-turned-podcaster announced that she's moved into hospice after several years of bowel cancer.

But while she might not see it be published, she's already seen it hit bestseller charts.

How to Live When You Could Be Dead was supposed to be released in January 2023, reports the Guardian, but news that it was now coming out in August 2022 has sent sales soaring.

The newspaper noted on Thursday that How to Live When You Could Be Dead had skipped past Richard Osman's wildly popular The Man Who Died Twice on Amazon's UK bestseller list, and as of midday today, it remained at number one.

James said in a statement that she was “blown away and utterly grateful” to those who preordered her book, described as helping those diagnosed with cancer focus on living in the moment and making the most of the time they have left.
