Congratulations to Ada Limón, who was announced today as the next poet laureate for the United States!

Limón has published six books of poetry, receiving the National Book Critics Circle Award (for The Carrying) and a Guggenheim fellowship, as well as earning a finalist nod for the National Book Award (for Bright Dead Things).

She currently hosts the poetry podcast The Slowdown, itself started by a US poet laureate, Tracy K. Smith.

Limón told the New York Times that she sees great power in her new role, though it's apolitical.

"Great poetry is the place where we come to get the strength to heal, to become whole again and to then recommit to the world," she said.
