Penguin Random House took an expensive stand in favor of LGBTQ+ rights last month.

The Big Five publisher bought billboards featuring quotes from books by LGBTQ+ authors in six major US cities last month.

The Hill reports that PRH chose two Texas cities (Dallas and Austin) and two Florida ones (Miami and Orlando) specifically because of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation passed in those states.

The other two cities, New York City and Chicago, were chosen because of their size and thus their visibility.

A spokesperson told The Hill that while the billboards have been taken down now, they could come back later.
