The Baillie Gifford Prize longlist is out, after a bit of a delay.
Nominees for the £50,000 (about $56,000) nonfiction award were originally set to be revealed September 13, but the announcement was postponed because of Queen Elizabeth II's death.
The shortlist comes out October 10, and the winner will be announced November 17.
The Guardian notes that many of the longlisted books discuss the pain and violence of the British empire over time ... as hinted by one nominee's title.
