Pioneering food writer Julie Powell has died.
Powell was the author of Julie & Julia, which adapted her blog about attempting to re-create each recipe from Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume 1.
The book was later adapted into a movie starring Amy Adams as Powell and Meryl Streep as Child (and in another fun fact, it was the final movie for which Nora Ephron served as a writer and director).
The New York Times reports that Powell's husband confirmed that she died October 26 at age forty-nine.
Her obituary is full of enthusiasm for how Powell served as a transition from the voice-of-authority style of food writing into the everyman style we've come to know today.
You can read more about Powell's life and writing in the NY Times.
