The New York Times has had quite a few bookish obituaries recently.
The one that most captured our attention was that of Hannah Pick-Goslar, whose friendship with Anne Frank is captured in the latter's classic diary.
The girls were classmates in Amsterdam and, almost improbably, met up when they were both at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
Pick-Goslar co-wrote a memoir, My Friend Anne Frank, that will come out June 12 -- what would've been Frank's ninety-fourth birthday.
Other writers who have passed away recently include Rebecca Godfrey (author of Under the Bridge), Katherine Duncan-Jones (author of Ungentle Shakespeare: Scenes from a Life), and Doris Grumbach (author of Chamber Music).
